Apis habilis (Tool using bee)
This hanging glazed ceramic sculpture is 5.5" high, 5.5" wide and 3.5" deep.
(The left front leg broke at the bisque ware stage.)
The name Apis habilis is a combination of the species name for the honey bee (Apis mellifera) and the first tool using hominid (Homo habilis). Honey bees have a long association with humans and were brought wherever humans migrated. This complex relationship provides a starting point for the creation of the Apis habilis pieces.
